The Book
The magnificence of the capital of all the Russias is shown here in all its glory, at every season of the year, in this album of outstanding picture by Russia's leading photographers. The colour illustrations are supplemented by informative commentary and introductions to the various parts of the city, the White City, and the Moscow Region, with examples of the most important sights. In addition to the palaces and museums, statues and monuments, there are photographs of the private houses of the great Russian philanthropists Shchukin and Morozov, with their extravagant turn-of-the-century architecture, and reproductions of some of the paintings in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow's world-famous collection of modern art. The focus in the Moscow region is on the Arkhangelskoye Estate, which has been owned by two noble families, the Golytsins and the Yusupovs. The palace itself, in Neo-classical style, is now a museum. This book is a delightful introduction to a city whose history has given it a unique atmosphere and appearance, and a fitting tribute to its wonders.
