The Book
Best known for his stained glass windows, Swiss painter Augusto Giacometti (1877-1947) was highly skilled in many genres of art. Adorning two famed churches of Zürich, Grossmünster and Fraumünster, his stained glass is still considered some of the greatest in the world. As a painter, Giacometti lived and worked in some of the art world’s greatest cities: Paris, Florence, and Zürich, but his hometown of Val Bregaglia would be the primary infl uence on his later works. As his style and brushwork varied and evolved greatly over his career, his mastery of colour as design became apparent. With colour as the focus of his paintings, Giacometti would become a pioneer for abstraction.
