The Book
Egon Schiele (1890-1918) was one of the great Expressionist painters. He was taught by Gustav Klimt, and at a very early age, like his Viennese Secession predecessors, broke with the traditions of official Austrian art. His numerous self-portraits and nude models remained consistent throughout his career in keeping with his erotic, sensual, and tormented visions of art. The paintings and text included in this book present the extraordinary talent of this artist who, sadly, died of Spanish influenza at the age of twenty-eight in Vienna.
The Authors
Art specialists Esther Selsdon and Jeanette Zwingerberger plunge the reader into the violent eroticism of one of the most seductive artists of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. In the course of their hard-hitting commentary, the authors decipher the most emblematic works of this flagship figure of the Expressionist movement.
